Welcome to RugShow 2023
A Virtual Show about Hooked Rugs and the People Who Make Them
By Members of the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild
In 2020, we did our first Virtual Show, as we were unable to put on the show that we’d planned due to the Covid Virus. It was well received and folks said “We should do this even when we CAN have a real show.”
So here it is, our second Virtual Show – this time with an expanded team. We hope you enjoy it.
Special Collections
In our first Virtual Show we had two Featured Artists, with extensive collections of their rugs, videoed interviews of visits in their studios. This time around we have four Special Collections, Remembering Lynn Soule, a member we lost this year; The Duncans, a group challenge taken up by members of two overlapping groups in Southern Vermont and Western Massachusetts; Celebrations 33, the ten juried finalists by GMRHG members; and the 2022 Award Winners, the rugs that were selected by our jurors and the viewers at our in-person show last November in Montpelier, VT.
Click on the pictures below to visit the special collections.
The Exhibit
This virtual exhibition gives us an opportunity to share the rugs we’ve made recently. Some of these were in our “regular” Rug Show in Montpelier, VT, November, 2022. Many have not been exhibited, in person, or virtually.
This exhibit includes:
- Rugs, wall hangings, pillows, footstools.. and more
- Stories about how the rugs came to be – the inspirations and motivations.
- An in-depth Video/ Slide Show about HOW one work was created.
- Information about rug-hooking for the uninitiated.
The Collection
Our online gallery consists of more than 135 rugs by 57 rug hooking artists, most of them members of the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild. While the Guild is based in Vermont, our 289 active members are from 19 states and 3 Canadian provinces.
Here are six random works to inspire your exploration.

What is interesting in the Online Rug Show?
Limitations and Opportunities:
The virtual format will never be the same as viewing the rugs in person; but, we do get to share more stories, and connect you to the person who made the rug.
Here are some fun figures about the scope of the guild and this show:
The 2020 Show is still available and these links will open in a new tab or window.
