Most rugs are not framed in a traditional sense of putting the art in a wooden or metal frame,  but many are “framed” by the design choices the artist makes.

A border can be hooked, or applied in the binding of the rug, or by the addition of a braid around the edge.

In this collection, you can look for where  a spot-dyed or “as-is” piece of wool was left whole, and added to edges of the the work, creating a frame.

Hooked borders can add more design elements and help to enliven the piece.
